English Western Program
At the 1966 annual convention, the CSHA English Western High Point Program was introduced. It was originally offered as a junior program, but was later expanded to include amateur adults. The purpose of this program was to provide the rider/handler a chance to compete for state championships.
The State Championship Show evolved from this concept. Now, instead of accumulating points to win state championships, the rider/handler can qualify through their Region’s high point program to compete at the State Championship Show.
CSHA has, for over 48 years, offered the English Western program as a way to promote the enjoyment of equine competition, education, and the continuous improvement of skills and knowledge. Our goal is to provide an affordable competitive program that provides show opportunities for youths, families, amateurs, and non-amateurs, regardless of breed preference.
You must be a member of CSHA in order to participate in the program. Competition is at the Region level so you must sign up in the English Western High Point Program where you live. You have a choice of competing in any of 5 categories; Halter, English, Western, Ranch or Reining. Within these categories you will then be competing within an age division.
A list of approved shows is posted on the State English Western website. You have the choice of which shows you want to attend. Some of these shows are put on by the CSHA Regions themselves. Other shows are put on by other organizations or equestrian facilities.
Points are accumulated by attending these shows. At the end of the year, points are totaled and championship awards are given to the winners in the high point categories and age divisions. Each Region that offers an English Western High Point Program will have separate rules.
The top 10 riders in each age division from each Region will go on to compete at the State Championship Show which is held during the month of October. This four day event will bring the top competitors from around the state where they will meet to determine who will become the state champions.
If this is something that appeals to you, come join our program. Show off the talents of both you and your horse, all the while earning points towards fabulous year end awards. And you can qualify to compete at the Show of Champions.
