English Western Program
For over 56 years, CSHA has offered the English Western program as a way to promote equine competition, education, and the continuous improvement of skills and knowledge. Our goal is to provide an affordable competitive program that provides opportunities for youths, families, amateurs and professionals regardless of their breed preferences.
At the 1966 annual convention, when the English Western High Point Program was first introduced, the purpose was to provide the rider/handler a chance to compete for state championships. Originally intended for the junior rider, the program later expanded to include amateur adults.
Over time the concept of a State Championship Show evolved. Now, instead of accumulating points to win State championships the rider/handler will qualify through their Region’s high point program to compete at the State Championship Show.
Competition is divided into 5 discipline categories; Halter, English, Western, Ranch or Reining. Each category is then divided into age divisions.
Points are accumulated by competing at any on a list of CSHA approved shows. You must compete in a minimum of 3 approved shows in order to qualify.
At the end of the show season, region awards are given to the high point winners in each category and age division. And as a qualified rider, you will be invited to compete at the State Championship Show as a representative of your region.
The State Championship Show is traditionally held in the month of October. It is a multi day event that brings together the top competitors from around the state. There they will meet to determine who will become the state champions.
If this is something that appeals to you, come join our program. By showing off the talents of both you and your horse, you can earn points towards fabulous year end awards. And you can qualify to compete at the Year End Finals State Championship Show.
